Islam claims to respect women. In fact, groups such as The Islamic Thinkers Society, believe that it is Western culture that disrespects and defiles womanhood.

To prove their higher moral position Islam has implemented special rules for beating your wife..

hiya AC..confusing topic at best..the modesty that some religions profess would be healing for "liberated" women but the beatings..ah well thats part of their whole pathology eh?

Just how many muslimas take their husbands to court? I've heard of a recent case (in Saudi, I think), but such a legal solution is rare as hens' teeth.

ABDULLAH ALI HOSPITALIZED
The man who posts here and on other blogs as Abdullah Ali is hospitalized right now. He was in a car crash a little before New Year's and apparently suffered more serious injuries than he thought he had at the time of the crash, including internal bleeding. I am a close associate of his. He collapsed yesterday during our morning jog.
I don't care if you hate his guts, you better be praying for him. He's a great man, whether you like him or not.

AC-He is a spoiled brat, who's lack of social skills has lead to extreme rejection(I mean, as a woman, would I want to be caught dead in his company, I don't care for jerks). So he is taking out his spleen on decent folks who are able to form a community, that works fine without him. He's a spoiler!
And he flaps his gums on subjects he is really ignorant of. Spiritual matters are discerned spiritually, and if your spirit is dead before G*D, you can't discern the worms eating it!

Domestic Violence Rates Drop Sharply
Domestic violence in the United States declined significantly from 1993 to 2004, with nonfatal incidents dropping more than 50 percent, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics. Nonfatal incidents of intimate partner violence fell from 5.8 per 1,000 residents in 1993 to 2.6 victimizations per 1,000 in 2005.
This is due to efforts of lawmakers, police and social workers. The US doesn't condone domestic violence and unlike Islamic countries, it takes measures against those who commit domestic violence.

HYDERABAD(John Brown's World): Religious scholars and leaders have demanded the withdrawal of the Women Protection Act and called for the reformation of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) representing Muslims of all schools of thought.
Declaring the act un-Islamic, they said it would promote obscenity and convert Pakistan into a “free-sex zone”.
The demands were made at the annual Imam Noorani conference at the Noor Mahal Chowk, which was chaired by Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP) and World Islamic Mission chief Allama Shah Anas Noorani. The conference, through resolutions, demanded that the existing CII should be dissolved as it does not comprise Ulema....
The JUP chief said the implementation of the Women Protection Act would destabilise the society and change the Islamic ideology of the country. He termed it a challenge to religious forces in the country.
He said the religious forces would continue their struggle against the act and other “un-Islamic” policies of the government, and added that this act is against the Holy Qur’aan and Sunnah....
The JUP chief said un-Islamic laws are being passed to appease the Western world, adding that the JUP has already kicked off an “Azan Campaign” to get rid of the rulers. An important meeting of the JUP would be convened in Karachi on Monday (Dec 18).
JUP Vice President, MMA central leader and MNA Sahibzada Abul Khair Mohammed Zubair said the government has adopted policies to turn the country into a secular state through making changes in Islamic laws and curriculum.
He said he would not sit in an assembly that has adopted the Women Protection Act, which “is against the teachings of Islam”.

I would hate to think what would happen to a man who inflicted "only ten blows" upon me. The bustard has to sleep, you know?
I do, however, understand these women have their entire culture against them. If they try to "get even" or even "get out" of the situation, they will be legally stoned to death by their understanding peers, or some equally horrible fate will await them. Why aren't the women's organizations in this country screaming at the top of their lungs in outrage against the way such women are treated. It must be one of two things: either they don't give a crap because they think it involves them or else they are afraid some in-country islamofascist will blow them up. I can't make up my mind which one it is; perhaps a combination of both!
