Bloomberg on Target
Again, I feel the need to reiterate my position on the Second Amendment. I am opposed to any restriction that prevents law abiding, mentally stable citizens from purchasing guns.
- Mayor Continues Fight Against Illegal Guns
- While speaking out against illegal guns Wednesday at an event in Jersey City, Mayor Bloomberg scoffed at the suggestion that students in Virginia would have been better off if they were armed.
- One gun rights advocate group says that Monday’s tragedy at Virginia Tech may have been avoided if the students were able to arm themselves on campus.
- "I can't think of anything dumber than to say lets give all students on campus a gun,” said the mayor in response. “In some senses I hate to even answer the question because it's sick."
Arming the student body is not the answer. Cho sent more than enough signals to Professors, police, mental health professionals and even to fellow students. Education that leads to identification and prevention will save more lives than having 25,000 armed college students.

I do not know if we can send people to be evaluated for being creepy. Would a sane person sitting in Norman Finklesteins class be called creepy for objecting.
This is a tougher problem than it seems.
Bloomberg has it right as far as i'm concerned.
He's a good man in the right place at the right time
LOL! Bearkin! I guess some would consider us all to be creepy! Yes, there should be more involvement with students and teachers interacting more? I don't know. Maybe smaller schools are best.
it's harder and harder for "law abiding, mentally stable citizens" to get a gun and easier and easier for criminals and psychopaths to get the most advanced weaponry
Something's wrong somewhere
If anyone wants to kill, they will use anything as a weapon.
If not a gun then a hammer, a saw etc...
Guns don't kill people, people kill people.
The first recorded murder was Cain killing Abel, did he have a gun?
It's the heart of man that is the problem.
Daniel
Your heart may want to kill, but the finger pulls the trigger and the gun is the final messanger. I am a strong supporter of the 2nd and I love how we cherry pick our rights. How about we get rid the pesky 1st. Those reporters are devious bastards. Or the 18th, whoops. 19th, just kidding girls. And as for 13 to 16 ... gotcha, no Imus imitations here
My point is we know our Constitution and there are parts we disagree with, a beautiful right. But all the pieces fit together to make us who we are.
So the finger pulls the trigger by itself?
Your heart MAY want to kill?
The heart does kill.
What bout premeditation?
Daniel
the point I was trying to make is we commit the crimes as humans and we have taken the action in the end. We look for every excuse to get out of jam and in the end refuse to acknowledge our mistakes by blaming it to past abuse or Grand Theft Auto and Ice-T.
Just a feeble attempt at sounding semi-smart. Very feeble at that.
AC,
same old story...a tragedy with a gun and all legal carriers are put into question. As the old adage goes," guns don't kill people, people kill people". Knives, fists and box cutters can all do the job. As for law abiding capable citizens, I want them to have guns. Deterence goes a long way.
Gun laws and gun restrictions only serve to disarm law abiding citizens. Criminals will always have guns because they don't give one rat's behind what kind of law you pass.
As for arming college campuses: I don't think it's a good idea to arm every student. I do think it would be beneficial to properly train and arm several of the faculty members.
As for using more police officers and video systems to stop criminals: Banks have video systems, some even have armed guards in the lobby. They get robbed every day. Not much of a deterence is it?
I have no problem with trained professors carrying concealed weapons on campus but most college faculty members are so far to the left, I doubt there would be many(if any) willing to do so.
When I went through the Coast Guard law-enforcement school for conducting ship boardings, we were trained with shotguns and 45 cal. handguns. Handguns are NOT very accurate weapons, except at short distances. Police officers need regular training to keep their skills sharp. Most people, even those who gone through some training, wouldn't hit a moving target past 10 yd. The possibility of accidentally shooting someone is very high.
obob..the Constitution gives 2 very distinct ways of changing or amending it and neither of those ways are legislating an amendment out of existence...which is exactly what those in favor of strict gun-control are trying to do.
Ok obob. -or get off on 'reason of insanity'.
bogus excuse to me.
I've always likeed Charlton Heston as the NRA President-is he still the Pres?
Someone was killed in a local store here by a man with a saw the other day.
(just as I said),If anyone wants to kill, they will use anything as a weapon.
If not a gun then a hammer, a saw etc...
I agree with you, AC. I'm also opposed to any restriction that prevents law abiding, mentally stable citizens from purchasing guns.
We've always had murders, even mass murders. As anonymous said, "if anyone wants to kill, they will use anything as a weapon." At one time these same arguments took place regarding what was thought to be the most dangerous weapon in the world: The Crossbow. Obviously, it didn't do any good whatsoever. Humanity will always find ways to invent faster, more efficient weapons for us to kill one another with. Criminals and psychopaths will always exist and manage to get those weapons either legally or illegally. This type of horror will always happen.
So what's the answer? Well, since we're not ever going to be able to prevent this madness 100%, a nice start would be for the MSM to cease and desist from making a hero out of this guy in the minds of other madmen! I was furious at the constant showing of Cho's video and pictures, even by Fox. The MSM encouraged copycats by doing that. The MSM is a huge part of the problem.
The answer is not to have law-abiding citizens who have no criminal record turning in their guns. That only leaves us unprotected from the monsters. Neither do I want to send my child to a school where all children are armed. That's absurd!
