Just a Question. Or Two...
I normally don't do this but this topic has been weighing on my mind the last couple of weeks.
Oliver Purnell is the Head Coach of Clemson basketball and a black man. Recently they were playing Duke and at halftime ESPN showed a recent interview with the coach. In this interview, he was relating how much he was cheering for Indianapolis to win the AFC championship. At first, I just figured he was from Indianapolis or he was just a Colts fan but I was wrong. The reason he wanted Indianapolis to win was because the coach of Indianapolis, Tony Dungy is black and he wanted to see two black head coaches in the Super Bowl.
Now my question is this. If a white coach openly stated on an interview that the reason the wanted a particular team to win was based solely on the color of the quarterback or the head coach, would he be labeled racist?
Does the historical significance outweigh any perceived racism?
And..is there a double standard in this country when it comes to race?

Yes.
tmw
somehow I don't think it would have went over too well if the situation were reversed
You bet AC..and thanks for having the courage and self esteem to point out the blatant hypocrisy..!
what if they were french duhkkky?
ducky said "and if we have any sense as a nation (and we have little) we would understand"
I would appreciate it if you do not include me in that "we". Now I know that you don't have any patriotism but I believe you are in a small minority.
Most Americans have a very strong sense as a nation and 911 proves it.
I don't know anyone who wasn't affected that day.
Is it hard living in a country that you despise? Do you hide the fact you're an American?
You've asked four excellent questions, two in your post and two in the comment section. I can answer the first two.
1. Does the historical significance outweigh any perceived racism? Yes!
2 ...is there a double standard in this country when it comes to race? Yes!
To Ducky you asked:
3. Is it hard living in a country that you despise? Of course I can't answer for him, but if I felt the way he seems to it would be hard for me.
4. Do you hide the fact you're an American? Can't answer that one, and if he does hide that fact you and I both know he's not going to admit it.
Yes, clearly a double standard.
Why don't you look at every economic indicator available to anyone choosing to look, AC.
Examine the numbers with regard to race.
Once you do that - once you see Vanilla Sam's grotesque overtness - you'll be able to answer your own question.
But that's hardly a shock, is it. After all, Vanilla Sam traded indigenous charity for savage genocide.
It's in his blood. He is the Slaver.
Does Vanilla Sam have a double standard with regard to race?
Two words: Hurricane Sam.
AC,
Still blabbering on about 911... still using it as a cane to prop up Uncle Sam's fading empire?
Uncle Sam's evil MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSLIM alCIAda Goblins sure did a number on you.
Credit the spooks who knocked down those buildings! If they can use propaganda to pull one over on a guy like you, look out!
After long, they'll be lying their way to war.
White Overpriveledge is a foundational principle of the country, AC. It's written into the Constitution.
So it's always there. White supremacists don't feel comfortable acknowledging it... it's much easier to talk about a college basketball coach than... say... slavery.
Understanding White Priveledge implies knowledge of self, a characteristic of which Vanilla Sam knows virtually nothing.
If Vanilla Sam knew himself, he would see his legacy of racism as the cause of the coach's remark.
John Brown...one side of my family came here to escape the potato famine in Ireland and the other side to escape economic conditions in pre-World War I Czechoslovakia.
I'm not sure what advantages you had but my family came here with nothing but for clothes on their backs.
I'm sorry that you live in a society that you despise, it must be a miserable existence but I hear Saudi Arabia is looking for oil production workers.
Slavery ended a good 40 years before any ancestor of mine stepped on this continent. We didn't get affirmative-action, racial quotas, or any other race based preference.
The Irish were miserably treated upon arrival.
Success meant hard work.
A major double-standard exists, a Bill Cosby or John McWhorter can criticize their own race, but white's can't, forget any facts.
Hopefully though, with the rise of more conservative minorities, more minorities will listen to their logic. The 'caring' Left is what holds minorities down, creating victims dependent on the state.
absurd thought -
God of the Universe says
hate your own race
liberal bigots demand
that white people blame themselves
.
Hey JB,
Who ended slavery?
Who sold slaves to the whites?
How many hundreds of years did Arab enslavement of black Africans predate the Europeans?
What society never had slavery?
Who pioneered civil rights for all races?
How integrated are cities in third world countries?
Why dont you take a latenight walk by yourself in Harlem? ...Experience real racism.
Signed,
Slandered Sam
If JB is so concerned about slavery, why doesn't he go start an underground railroad in the countries where it still exists... all muslim....
whine, whine, whine... What a cry baby.
Freedom Now and AC miss the point of John Brown.
John Brown is the progressive friend of Drug dealers. When the cocaine comes into the inner city the boys at FARC and Hugo have had a cut. When the Heroin comes in from overseas the boys in Iran, Taliban and Hezbollah get their cut.
John Brown is the Progressive Superfly of the community. His real name is Youngblood Pest and he sells Progressive rhetoric laced with drugs to the underclass.
Drug dealing and usage is a very progressive value to John Brown. All those ministers who work hard trying to better their communities are all just Uncle Toms and are living incognegro.
Both coaches were black and I hope this will become a non story.
There is clearly a double standard.
Speaking of double-standards, any thoughts on why Bloomberg News chose to run with the race angle, and edited out the entire quote from Dungy giving thanks to God and his faith?
We can't have any Christian reference to God on Bloomberg News Brooke without giving equal time to Allah. CAIR would claim Islamophobia and bigotry.
Ditto. And while we're on this topic, although I don't particularly like the word myself, why is that I am not allowed to use my freedom of speech when I say the word nigger?
Oh, I guess I just did.
Let's wait for the straw men.
Steve I never use the N word as it is impolitte. The Duck has no problem with Commie fink Paul Robeson using the word thirty times in the Emperor Jones.
Apparently this show was commonly performed but has been a victim of the times,
I'm amazed on how people on the right love this country and those on the left despise America.
I can understand differences in political views, I understand why many are against the war and Iraq and I can understand people wanting this country to go in a different direction but what I don't understand is how people like ducky and John Brown hate this country and hate what it stands for.
I believe that they would rather see this country destroyed then actually work to improve it.
That type of thinking is alien to me.
I think they are aliens, AC... that has to be the explanation! ;)
Hey... look who showed up: MULLAH BEAK the DHS PEDOPHILE!
Still censoring your blog?
Still buying your drugs from Rickey Ross?
Or have you switched over to your other favorite pusherman, Uribe?
I thought so.
JB,
Your link to a bunch of anti-Semitic garbage is not very prudent especially in light of the avatar that you use.
I admit that sometimes I find your comedy act to be entertaining because it is akin to Charlie Chaplin portraying the great dictator. You make your cause look very foolish, but this is a bit too distasteful for me to even laugh at.
