The Eye of God

According to the Hubbel Telescope site, this particular picture if of the HELIX NEBULA, which is about 650 light years from earth.
It is said to be the nearest planetary nebulae to earth.
A planetary nebula is gas around what used to be a star much like our sun.
The photograph is not just from the Hubble telescope, but is a composite of data from the Hubble telescope and from Kitt Peak in Tucson, Arizona.

Amazing! I love and have studied Astronomy and Cosmology. I built my own 10" Dobsonian Reflector telescope (except for the mirror). It was awesome to see the moons, Giant Red spot on Jupiter, the craters of our moon, sunspots (with a maylar covering) Of which I made one for my camera. I've seen the Orion Nebula, taken pics of comets and love to watch shooting stars.

Not sure if you have the Hubbles site...

And this site is awesome to track an see Sats, ISS, Iradium flares and the Space Shuttle fly overs in real time.

Check out this site, that has downloadable videos of meteorites, Sats, sprites and ufo's (pretty cool!)

Two of my favorite subjects in college were astronomy and anthropology. KU has a decent observatory which I never grew tired of viewing the night sky.
While on watch aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Courageous, there were cloudless nights away from land where we could look through the "big eyes" and see moons around Saturn and Jupiter. You could not quite make out Saturn's rings but Orion was spectacular.
