Further Proof Of United Nations Futility

Has the United Nations ceased to exist as a viable functioning international entity?

United Nations Resolution 1559

United Nations Security Council Resolution 1559 was a resolution adopted by the United Nations Security Council on September 2, 2004. It called upon Syria to end its military presence in Lebanon by withdrawing its forces and to cease intervening in internal Lebanese politics. The resolution also called on all Lebanese militias (including Hezbollah) to disband.

Nine countries voted in favor: Angola, Benin, Chile, France, Germany, Romania, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Six countries abstained: Algeria, Brazil, the People's Republic of China, Pakistan, the Philippines and Russia.

Another example of United Nations passing resolutions but not taking the steps to enforce them. Instead the United Nations sent 2000 UN peacekeepers who are there only as observers. Emboldened, Hezbollah launched missiles into Israel as UN peacekeepers sat and watched. Now the United Nations wants to send 8000 more peacekeepers. I have to ask why?

Hezbollah's militia doesnt have a single reason to justify its existence.

Even if you took the Leftwing/Islamist stance that Israel is the aggressor in the region, the Lebanese army is fully equipped and willing to protect Lebanon from any Israeli incursions into their territory.

The militia exists solely as another means of extending Hezbollah's political influence.

Lebanese troops are not allowed to patrol Hezbollah controlled land. This land is ruled in a totalitarian manner by Hezbollah and they are dedicated to extending Islamic law to the rest of Lebanon and Israel.

While Syria doesnt want Islamists to rule Syria, they dont mind other countries being subjected to it, as long as they pull the strings.

And as long as Hezbollah's militia exists, Lebanon will be under the heel of Syria.

Correct.
The whole comedy with Syrian forces leaving Lebanon would be funny if it weren't so serious.

Of course, since we know nobody pays attention, and we're glad Israel pays no attention, to the UN's idiotic Resolutions, this is not a surprise!

The true surprise is that anybody in the West is childish, or naive, enough to think that the UN is good for anything other than casting a shadow in the afternoon.

On tonight's news...The Lebanese Army will fight side-by-side with Hezbollah if Israel undertakes a full-fledged ground invasion.

It is worth remembering that Hezbollah also holds seats in Lebanon's Parliament.

Once again, the U.N. is USELESS. Even worse, dangerous.

Away we go with with anti-Syrian feelings.
